– I’d LOVE to – Visit the Mysterious ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru

ImageNow for someone who isn’t the most experienced hiker and who can only run 5km before passing out The Inca Trail would be quite a challenging one to tick off my bucket list. But if the final destination of the 43km trek is Machu Picchu, the mysterious “Lost City of the Incas” –

The majestic city of Machu Picchu is 7 000 feet above sea level and is situated between the Andean Mountain Range and the Urabamba Valley. It’s known today as one of the lost cities as it was only recently discovered in 1911. (Apparently that’s recent..)

What I wanted to find out was  why on earth it was built so far away from civilization? What or who were they hiding from?  So I did some research and found out that Archaeologists reckon that about 1200 people could have lived in the ancient city.   (That just sounds like a lot of incest to me) Others surmise it was a likely retreat for Incan rulers due to it’s isolation from the rest of Peru. My opinion is that it was a retreat the Incan fathers sent their young 16 year old daughters on to keep them away from hormone induced boys. “Honey, we’re just sending you to a lovely outdoor spa” … For 5 years. I know my father would have done the same if we had a Machu Picchu on top of Table Mountain and there were no cable cars to get down.

Eish, well now I’m intrigued and I want to get my African booty climbing the Inca to get to discover the truth. Comment below if you’ve been to see this magical city and tell me about  your own theories on why it was built?

I’ve also noticed that in all the pictures I’ve found of Machu Picchu there aren’t any pictures of people actually inside the city but rather taken from afar. Is this because you’re not actually allowed inside the city. Or are people too tired by the time they reach Machu Picchu that the first glimpse of it they get  of it they’re like “Ah there it is, made it to the top. Not moving another bloody inch or my legs will cave in” ?

Someone whose been there please give me a holler and let me know what the deal with that is? Because if I’ve climbed that far and  made it to Machu Picchu, hell I’m going inside, having a party and I may even spend the night  or a few days having my own spa retreat..

Let me know your thoughts below almal. Also how rad are LAMAS! I wonder if I’d be able to ride one..
